Too Late to apologize: a declaration, Patriot Version
There are a few different versions of this rendition of the One Republic song. I liked this one because it does include scenes from the movie "The Patriot" which we will be watching in class.
While watching this video, think about the following: What are the major complaints "Thomas Jefferson" brings up in the letter to the King of England (King George of the House of Hanover). What symbolism and imagery is used? Who are some of the men highlighted? What were their roles? Were they all involved in the drafting of the Declaration of Independence? What similarities do you notice between our battle scenes in The Patriot scenes and Cromwell? Would you consider these men brave? |
The Declaration of Independence, as read by various actors
Though this video is a little long, it is a very powerful and moving reading.
What do you think of the points that Morgan Freeman (the first speaker) brings up about the strengths and weaknesses of the Declaration? When you listen to the declaration, think about why this is a good piece of writing. Can you hear three sections? Where and when does the tone change? What were your feelings once you finished listening? |
